Argus News - Mobile Snatching Triggers Group Clash in Odisha

Jajpur, Feb 23: Tension gripped Solei village under Danagadi block of Jajpur district after a violent clash broke out between two groups over a mobile snatching incident, leading to the death of an elderly woman.

According to reports, the conflict began when Rabi Hembram, aka Jamu, allegedly snatched a mobile phone from Barju Lohar by force. When Lohar informed fellow villagers about the incident, a group of locals confronted the accused to retrieve the phone.

What started as a heated argument soon escalated into a violent fight between the two sides. During the clash, a youth was seriously injured in a blade attack, leaving him profusely bleeding. The confrontation intensified between residents of Adivasi Sahi and Kamar Sahi, turning into a full-scale group conflict.

In the chaos, 65-year-old Jema Alda, wife of Gadadhar Alda, sustained severe injuries. She was rushed to the Danagadi Community Health Centre, but doctors declared her dead after initial treatment. Her death has triggered widespread fear and unrest in the village.

Police forces were immediately deployed to control the situation. Danagadi police reached the spot, began investigation, and detained 10 individuals from both sides for questioning. Authorities have assured strict action against those found guilty.

The incident has created a volatile atmosphere in Solei village, with residents anxious about further escalation. Police have appealed to the villagers to maintain peace and cooperate with the investigation. The administration has emphasized that law and order will be strictly enforced to prevent any recurrence of violence.
