MLAs & MPs Can Recommend Teacher Transfers In Odisha, But Only 15 Per Constituency

Key Points

New guidelines aim to streamline teacher transfers and ensure fairness in the process.

Bhubaneswar, May 14: Odisha’s School and Mass Education Minister, Nityananda Gond, has clarified the process of teacher transfers, emphasising transparency and fairness.

He stated that legislators, as public representatives, have the authority to recommend transfers based on the needs of schools in their constituencies. However, these recommendations must adhere to strict guidelines to prevent any form of malpractice.

According to the latest directive from the School and Mass Education Department, only 15 teachers from each constituency can be recommended for transfer by MLAs and MPs. Additionally, transfers from rural areas to urban regions will not be permitted.

The department, on Tuesday, has assured that all proposals will be reviewed between June 15 and July 15, ensuring a structured and fair process.

Minister Gond also addressed concerns regarding teacher grievances, acknowledging that educators often approach public representatives with issues related to transfers.

He reassured that current vacancies, and the transfers of teachers who are working at a school for more than six years, will be prioritised for transfers, and no financial transactions will be involved in the process.

Gond has also confirmed that the Plus Two board examination results will be published very soon. All necessary preparations are being made for this, and the announcement is expected within a few days.
