Odisha News / Missing MKCG MBBS Student Rescued in Mayurbhanj

Baripada/Brahmapur, Sept 8: A 20‑year‑old MBBS student of MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Brahmapur, who had gone missing from the college premises on August 31, was rescued from Tiring in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, police said on Tuesday.

The student, identified as Sagar Sahoo, son of Rabindra Sahoo and a resident of Kapali village under Kuakhia police limits in Jajpur district, was traced after he contacted his family using a bus conductor’s mobile phone while travelling from Jharkhand. Acting on the alert, Tiring police intercepted the bus and rescued him safely. Kuakhia police are now coordinating with their counterparts to bring him back home.

Sahoo’s disappearance had triggered deep anxiety among relatives and fellow students. He was last seen near Brahmapur railway station, wearing a white shirt and carrying a college bag. His mobile phone was later recovered from near the railway tracks.

Police said the student had appeared for two examinations but failed to turn up for the third. On the day of the Physiology paper, he was reportedly seen outside the examination hall before vanishing. Following a complaint lodged by MKCG authorities with Baidyanathpur police, a special team was formed to trace him.

Brahmapur SP Saravana Vivek M said that the operation was launched soon after the missing report was filed. “We recovered his mobile phone near the railway tracks and intensified the search. His safe rescue has brought relief to his family and friends,” a Police officer said.

While his recovery has eased concerns, questions remain about the circumstances that led to his disappearance. For now, his family and peers are relieved that the week‑long ordeal has ended safely.
