Sambalpur, Aug 23: A Class IX girl student, who went missing after jumping into the Mahanadi River from the Chaurpur Bridge in Sambalpur early Sunday morning, has been rescued.
The student, identified as Arita Bisi, is an orphan who had received free admission and study materials through government support. She had been staying with relatives in Sambalpur.
According to reports, the victim, a student of Budharaja Girls’ High School, arrived at the bridge on her bicycle and jumped from the Chaurpur Bridge leaving behind her school bag, mobile phone, and a bottle of phenyl.
Passersby immediately alerted the matter to the emergency services.
Personnel from the Odisha Fire Service responded reached the spot and launched a search operation in the river. After an intense effort, the girl was located and pulled out alive. She was then taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment.
