Balangir, Jan 4: In another ghastly act, a minor girl was reportedly raped and then killed at Tustapalli village under the Saintala police station limits in Balangir district last night. 

The deceased has been identified as Nalini Chhatria, daughter of Mahadeb Chhatria of Tustapalli village. 

According to the information, the girl had gone to the river for cleansing. But after some time, a few other girls found her lying and growling in pain near a bush.  Villagers rushed her to the Saintala Hospital soon. As her condition turned critical, she was shifted to the Bhim Bhoi Medical College and Hospital, Balangir. However, doctors declared her dead there.  

Tension prevailed in the area as family members and locals demanded the immediate arrest of the culprit. 

Acting on a complaint, Titiligarh SDPO Ankita Kumbhar called the deceased's family members to the police station and interrogated them. 

Some villagers have alleged that a group of youths belonging to the victim's village and neighbouring Patnagarh have committed the heinous crime.
