Bargarh, Aug 11: A minor girl sustained severe burn injuries after allegedly setting herself ablaze near a football field at Firingmal village under Gaisilet police station limits.

According to reports, the girl, currently staying at her maternal uncle’s house, poured petrol on herself and set herself ablaze. She was immediately rushed to the district headquarters hospital in critical condition.

While the reason behind the suspected suicide attempt remains unknown, police have launched an investigation to determine whether it was a case of self-harm or if foul play was involved.

A case has been registered and further probe is underway.

This marks the fourth such incident in Odisha within a month, raising serious concerns about mental health and safety among minors.
