Minister Pujari to Visit Flood-Hit Jajpur Today Amid Rising Crisis

Jajpur, Aug 26: The flood situation in Jajpur district has worsened following a breach in the embankment of the Kani River, a tributary of the Baitarani.

 

The breach near Bangalabadi village under Ahiyas Panchayat in Dasarathpur block has led to the inundation of 21 panchayats, including one in Jajpur block, affecting over 18,433 residents.

 

Heavy rainfall and rising water levels in the Baitarani River have triggered widespread flooding across Dasarathpur block. Villages such as Kasapa, Mallikapur, Tarapada, Susua, Duduraanta, Nizampur, Dattapur, Kaya, Komaradihi, Khananagar, Chhachhina, Mangalpur, Jayantara, and Katikata are among the worst-hit.

In response, the Jajpur district administration has launched extensive relief and rescue operations. 6191 people have been evacuated to safer locations, and 14 relief centres have been set up to provide dry and cooked food to displaced families. Medical support is being provided by 2 ambulance-equipped medical teams and 9 veterinary teams to ensure both human and livestock care.

 

To bolster rescue efforts, 2 ODRAF teams, 1 fire service unit, and multiple boats have been deployed in the flood-affected zones. The administration is working round the clock to manage the crisis and prevent further damage.

 

Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari is scheduled to visit Dasarathpur on Tuesday to assess the ground situation and oversee relief measures. His visit is expected to bring further coordination and support to the ongoing efforts. With more rain forecasted, authorities remain on high alert.
