Balasore, May 28: In a dramatic midnight incident, two women attempted to steal a newborn baby from Balasore District Hospital but were stopped by the child's family and vigilant locals.

The shocking event occurred around 2:30 am when the suspects entered the maternity ward and tried to take away the infant from its mother's side.

The newborn, a baby girl, had been born 10 days earlier to Satyabrata Das from Bhograi's Aruhabati region. As the family kept watch over the child, they noticed the suspicious behaviour of the women attempting to abduct the baby. Upon confrontation, the women tried to flee the scene, triggering a chaotic chase. One woman fell while running and was caught by the locals, while the other was soon apprehended.

The hospital staff and security were alerted immediately, and police from the town station arrived to take the suspects into custody. The motive behind the kidnapping attempt is under investigation.

This incident raises concerns about security measures in the hospital, especially since reports suggest that similar baby thefts have occurred in the past year. Authorities are expected to review hospital safety protocols to prevent such crimes in the future.
