Bhubaneswar, Dec 7: Severe cold wave has gripped Odisha, with temperatures plunging sharply across the state. Meteorologists have predicted that the mercury may dip further by 1–2°C in the coming days.
The capital city Bhubaneswar recorded temperatures below 15°C, marking one of the coldest spells of the season.
Temperature data over the past week shows a steady decline.
On December 2, Bhubaneswar recorded 20°C, which dropped to 16.4°C on December
3, 15.8°C on December 4, 14°C on December 5, and 13°C on December 6. The trend
indicates a sharp fall in minimum temperatures, signaling the onset of peak
winter conditions.
Interior and western districts of Odisha have reported even lower readings.

Phulbani recorded the state’s lowest
temperature at 8.5°C, followed by Angul at 9.8°C, Koraput at 10.8°C, Baripada
at 11.5°C, Balangir at 11.8°C, Cuttack at 12.4°C, and Titilagarh at 13.5°C.

The cold wave has impacted daily life, with residents bundling up in woolens and the demand for hot beverages and winter essentials rising sharply. Health experts have advised precautionary measures, especially for children and the elderly, to avoid seasonal ailments.
The Meteorological Department has cautioned that the cold spell is likely to persist, with further dips in temperature expected in the coming week. Authorities have urged people to take necessary precautions as Odisha braces for harsher winter conditions.
