Sonepur, Aug 3: A tense situation unfolded at Sonepur District Headquarters Hospital following the alleged death of a patient due to wrong treatment.

The incident sparked high drama inside the hospital premises, with both the patient’s family and hospital authorities filing written complaints at the local police station.

According to reports, Prashant Tripathy of Panishiali village was admitted to the emergency ward late Sunday night after falling ill. His condition reportedly improved, but the duty doctor advised another injection.

Family members alleged that soon after the injection was administered, Prashant’s health deteriorated rapidly, leading to his death.

Accusing medical negligence, the bereaved family lodged a complaint at Sonepur police station. Police reached the hospital, seized the body, and began investigation.

Meanwhile, relatives refused to allow post-mortem, demanding accountability from the doctor on duty. This led to a tense standoff inside the hospital, with emotions running high.

On the other hand, hospital authorities denied negligence, claiming that the patient was given appropriate treatment. The hospital administration also filed a counter-complaint at the police station.

District Superintendent of Police and medical officials held discussions with the family, assuring proper investigation. Following assurances, the family agreed to the post-mortem, which was conducted after several hours of delay.

The hospital superintendent reiterated that the patient had received necessary medical care and rejected allegations of negligence.

Police have registered both complaints and are probing the matter further. The incident has triggered widespread concern among locals.
