Udala (Mayurbhanj), Mar 24: The Forest Department and Special Task Force (STF) carried out a raid in the jungle to apprehend poachers. The joint operation was carried out in Podadiha Range's Manabhanga area in Mayurbhanj district in Odisha.

According to reports, the poachers opened fire on the Forest Department officials and STF officials. During the operation, the poachers reportedly fired two rounds, and, in response, the Forest Department and STF fired blanks.

The raid took place Sunday night when six poachers were found cooking inside the forest. Upon spotting the officials, they attempted to escape, firing at them. One poacher and a country-made gun were seized at the scene, while five others fled.

Follow-up actions, after interrogating the detained poacher, in the Ashwakuti area led to the arrest of three more poachers and the seizure of three hidden firearms from the forest. Two poachers still remain at large.

The arrested poachers include Gansa Singh, Barju Singh, Gura Singh Bankshira, and Kartik Singh Bankshira from Ashwakuti village.

It can be termed as a big success for the authorities in the Odisha Government’s effort to combat wildlife poaching effectively.
