Bhubaneswar, Jul 2: In the wake of a shocking assault on Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Additional Commissioner Ratnakar Sahoo, the civic body will convene a high-level meeting on Wednesday to address glaring security lapses at its headquarters.

 

The incident, which occurred during a public grievance hearing, has sparked widespread outrage and raised serious questions about the effectiveness of existing surveillance and security protocols.

 

Mayor Sulochana Das will chaire the meeting, which included senior BMC officials, Smart City authorities, security agency representatives, and standing committee members.

 

The Mayor expressed deep concern over the non-functional CCTV cameras at the BMC office, stating that such a critical lapse in surveillance was unacceptable, especially in a high-security zone.

"Despite the presence of multiple security personnel, how did such an incident occur? Why were the CCTV cameras not operational for so long? These are questions that demand answers," said Mayor Das.

 

She emphasized that the responsibility for CCTV maintenance lies with the Smart City project team and warned that if they are unable to fulfil their duties, they should step aside.

 

The Mayor also questioned the failure of security staff to prevent the attackers from entering the premises and disrupting official proceedings. She announced that all concerned departments and agencies would be held accountable, and a detailed review of the security framework would be undertaken immediately.

 

The Mayor reiterated her commitment to ensuring the safety of all civic staff and restoring public trust in the administration.
