Chaibasa, Aug 16: In a major breakthrough, security forces recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition during an anti-Maoist operation in the dense Saranda forest, located near the Goilkera police station in Chaibasa, close to the Odisha–Jharkhand border.
According to reports, Jharkhand Police and elite commandos from the CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) unit, launched a joint operation in Saranda forest. During the operation, the security forces unearthed 4 Self-Loading Rifles (SLRs), 527 rounds of live ammunition, 10 magazines, multiple detonators and other Maoist-related materials.
It is suspected that the cache was part of a Maoist hideout used to stockpile weapons for planned attacks in the region.
The recovery is being hailed as a significant blow to insurgent capabilities in the area, which has long been a stronghold for left-wing extremists.
Following the seizure, security has been tightened along the Odisha–Jharkhand border, and further combing operations are underway to trace any remaining insurgent activity.
