Berhampur, Aug 9: In a shocking incident, a married woman was allegedly killed by in-law family members for failing to meet their dowry demand in a village in Ganjam district last night. 

Family members of the victim have filed a murder complaint at the Khallikote police station. 

According to the information, the ghastly incident occurred in Keshapur village under the Khallikote police station. The victim deceased was identified as Sasmita Sahu, wife of Sudhir Sahu of Keshapur village.

In his complaint, Sasmita's father Loknath Sahu, a resident of Khajuriapalli under Ganjam police station, alleged that in-law family members had been torturing his daughter for long. They killed her and hanged her, alleged Loknath. 

Acting on the complaint, the Khallikote police went to the spot and seized the body from the hanging position. After registering a case, the police have sent the body for postmortem.  

Meanwhile, in-law family members said Sasmita committed suicide by hanging herself. They have not cited any reason that led her to take the extreme step in life.
