Puri, Jun 2: A husband and wife were found hanging inside their locked house at Arjunsinghpur village under Satasankha police outpost limits in Odisha's Puri district on Tuesday, a source said.

The deceased were identified as Bhaskar Chandra Das (40) and his wife Kajal Das.

According to the source, neighbours became suspicious after noticing that the couple's house remained closed in the morning. Despite repeated calls, there was no response from inside. They subsequently informed the Satasankha police outpost.

When police reached the spot and received no response, they looked through a window and found the couple hanging from ropes inside the house.

A scientific team was called to the scene. In the presence of the Pipili SDPO and an Additional Tahsildar, the door was broken open and both bodies were recovered.

Police said Bhaskar Das was employed as a night guard at a mattress manufacturing unit. Preliminary investigation suggests that the couple may have taken the extreme step following a domestic dispute, though the exact reason is yet to be established.

A suicide note has been recovered from the house and seized by the scientific team.
