Nuapada, Jan 20: A search operation is underway in the nearby areas of Odisha-Chhattisgarh border after police got the information that a large number of maoists are hiding in a nearby forest.
As per a press release issued by the state headquarter of Odisha Police, an inter-state joint operation by the Odisha Police, Chhattisgarh Police and CRPF Jawans, has begun January 19.
The joint operation took place on the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border, Nuapada-Gariabandh (Chhattisgarh) border to be precise.
Two moists were killed in the operation, while the search team recovered weapons and some stuff of maoists.
As per the release, police on January 19 got the information about the presence and activities of a large number of maoists in Kularighat forest of Chhattisgarh, 5 km from Nuapada district border.
After getting the information, security forces of both the state as well as the CRPF initiated a joint operation in search of the maoists.
An exchange of fire continued from both sides since Monday morning and the joint operation is still underway.
