Bhubaneswar, July 7: In a significant development for Odisha’s political scenario, senior BJP leader Manmohan Samal, the incumbent President of the BJP in Odisha unit, on Monday filed his nomination as the sole candidate for the party’s top post in the state, party sources said.

With no other contenders in the fray, Samal is poised to continue as BJP’s State unit President, reinforcing his influence within the party’s organizational structure.

The nomination process, held today at the BJP’s state headquarters in Bhubaneswar, saw Samal emerge as the unanimous choice. The election, scheduled for July 8, will now be a formality, as per party tradition, where a single nomination indicates consensus and avoids voting.

Samal, who has previously served multiple terms as State President, played a pivotal role in steering the party to victory in the recent State Assembly elections. His tenure has been marked by aggressive membership drives, grassroots mobilization, and strategic coordination between the party and the newly formed BJP-led government in Odisha.

Speaking on his nomination, Samal said, “I have always worked as an ordinary karyakarta (worker). The party’s decision is a recognition of collective effort, not individual achievement.” His continued leadership is expected to bring stability and continuity as the BJP consolidates its governance and prepares for upcoming civic and national elections.

Senior leaders, including Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and national observers, have endorsed Samal’s nomination, citing his organizational acumen and deep connection with the cadre. The election officer, Pratap Chandra Sarangi, confirmed that the process followed all democratic protocols and that the final announcement will be made on July 8.
