Keonjhar, Jun 22: A man was killed in a hit-and-run accident near Melana on National Highway 20, under the jurisdiction of Ghatagaon police station in Keonjhar district.

The deceased has been identified as Shukra Munda, a resident of a nearby village.

According to reports, the victim was attempting to cross the highway when the speeding vehicle hit him and fled the scene.

Locals immediately alerted emergency services, and the injured man was rushed to Ghatagaon Community Health Centre via a 108 ambulance. However, doctors declared him brought dead.

The accident sparked tension in the area, with agitated locals briefly blocking traffic on both sides of the highway.

Later, police arrived at the scene and managed to pacify the crowd, restoring normalcy after some time.

Authorities have launched an investigation to identify the vehicle involved and determine the circumstances leading to the fatal collision.
