Berhampur, Mar 1: A man was allegedly hacked to death by a fellow villager in Odisha's Ganjam district on Thursday night on suspicion that he practised witchcraft.

The deceased has been identified as Trilochan Pradhan, a resident of Badagul village under Kabisuryanagar police limits in the district.

As per reports, the accused man, identified as Kailash Swain of the same village, attacked Trilochan with a sharp weapon when the latter was standing in front of a shop near his house.

Trilochan reportedly died on the spot.

On being informed, a police team arrived at the spot and sent the body for an autopsy.

"It appears that suspicion of practising witchcraft was behind the murder. Further investigation is underway,” a police officer said.
