Angul, Jul 28: A tragic and mysterious fire has claimed the life of a man in Geetagram locality under Angul Town Police limits.

The deceased has been identified as Saroj Sahu of Jaypur area. He had been living with his wife in a rented house.

According to reports, the couple reportedly had an heated argument on Sunday night. Following the dispute, Saroj's wife filed a complaint at the Angul police station. Based on the complaint, police reached the house to investigate, but Saroj did not opened the house and had locked himself inside.

The drama unfolded this morning when neighbours noticed flames coming from Saroj’s house, who then immediately alerted both the police and the fire department.

Rescue team reached the spot and somehow managed to retrieve Saroj in an unconscious state from inside the burning house. He was immediately rushed to Angul District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The fire also destroyed much of the household furniture and belongings. Saroj’s wife has since submitted a formal complaint with the local police.

Police have registered a case and launched a probe to determine the cause of the fire. Further details awaited.
