Angul, May 29: A man was burnt alive while another sustained critical injuries in a horrific road accident on NH-149 near the Samakoi bridge under Samal Police Station limits in Odisha’s Angul district, a source said Friday.
The deceased was identified as Deepak Pradhan from Turang area. Police are yet to ascertain the identity of the injured youth travelling with him.
According to the source, the two were travelling on a motorcycle from Khamar towards Pitiri village in Dhenkanal when an unidentified vehicle allegedly rammed into the bike on the Samakoi bridge. The impact reportedly dragged the motorcycle for nearly 200 metres.
While the pillion rider was thrown onto the road, the rider allegedly got trapped with the motorcycle and was burnt alive after the vehicle caught fire.
After receiving information, police reached the scene and shifted the injured youth to the Khamar Community Health Centre and later to the district headquarters hospital in Angul for advanced treatment.

Police launched an investigation to identify the vehicle involved in the crash.
Truck Driver Killed After Rear-Ending Another Truck In Dhenkanal
In another road mishap reported on Friday, a truck driver died after a coal-laden truck rammed into another truck from behind near the Jiridamali bypass junction on NH-53 under Kamakhyanagar Police Station limits.
The identity of the deceased driver is yet to be established.
According to preliminary information, both ten-wheeler trucks were travelling towards Talcher after unloading coal in the Jajpur region. One truck was moving ahead when the vehicle behind reportedly crashed into it for reasons yet to be known.

The impact completely damaged the front portion of the rear truck, trapping the driver inside the crushed cabin.
After being alerted by locals, Fire Services personnel and police rushed to the spot, cut open the cabin and rescued the driver before shifting him to the Kamakhyanagar Government Hospital. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Police begun an investigation into the late-night accident.
