Bhubaneswar, Apr 29: In a groundbreaking initiative to make learning more engaging and effective, Odisha has introduced ‘Jadupedi’ (Magic Box) kits for children in Shishu Vatika (Kindergarten), Class 1, and Class 2.
Designed by NCERT, these kits aim to promote play-based education, aligning with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
During a review session at Lok Seva Bhavan, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi examined the ‘Jadupedi’ kits, expressing confidence in their ability to attract children toward learning.
School and Mass Education Commissioner Shalini Pandit presented the kits' components, showcasing their interactive features that help children grasp fundamental concepts through games, puzzles, and storytelling activities.
Each kit is priced at approximately ₹20,000, with a total budget of ₹90 crore allocated for the project. 45,000 schools across the state will receive the kits, benefiting thousands of young learners.
Odisha’s education reforms under NEP 2020 also include the introduction of Shishu Vatika classes for pre-primary students and a curriculum transition for Classes 1-8, expected to align with NCERT’s National Curriculum Framework by the 2026-27 academic year.
Education officials believe that ‘Jadupedi’ will significantly enhance foundational learning, helping students develop cognitive skills while making classrooms more engaging and fun.
