Majhi Govt Expands PM-KISAN Reach, Urban Farmers Included

Key Points

Six Lakh New Farmers Added: Odisha expands PM-KISAN coverage post new government formation.

₹6,000 Crore Input Subsidy: State provides financial aid to 17 lakh farmers for Kharif season. Diversified Farming Push: CM urges farmers to grow beyond paddy for higher income.

Bhubaneswar, Aug 2: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, in a recent address, highlighted the state government's aggressive push to include more farmers under the PM-KISAN and CM-KISAN schemes.

Since the new government took office, 6 lakh new farmers have been added to the PM-KISAN beneficiary list, correcting exclusions from previous administrations.

While over 50 lakh farmers are already covered under the state-run CM-KISAN scheme, the PM-KISAN numbers lagged behind. The Majhi-led government prioritized onboarding left-out farmers, especially those from urban and tribal areas, ensuring broader coverage and financial support.

On August 2, during the 20th instalment of PM-KISAN, ₹2,000 each was transferred to 34.85 lakh Odisha farmers, part of a nationwide disbursement of ₹20,500 crore. This marks a significant milestone in the central scheme’s rollout, with Odisha playing a key role in its success.

CM Majhi also criticized the previous government for failing to provide even ₹100 as bonus to farmers. In contrast, his administration has introduced an ₹800 input subsidy, benefiting 17 lakh farmers during the Kharif season with a total outlay of ₹6,000 crore. Odisha remains the only state to offer input subsidies during the Rabi season as well.

The CM emphasized that farmers should not be limited to paddy cultivation. He encouraged diversification into horticulture, oilseeds, and fruit crops, which could significantly boost rural incomes. Under schemes like Subhadra, CM-KISAN, and PM-KISAN, farmers now receive up to ₹30,000 annually in government support.
