Low Pressure System Forms Over Bay Of Bengal, SRC Issues Advisory

Bhubaneswar, May 27:Odisha is bracing for heavy rainfall as a low-pressure system formed over the Bay of Bengal today. Following this, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has issued an advisory to all district Collectors, urging them to remain alert and prepare for any potential impact.

"As per the information received from IMD today (27.05.25), formation of a low-pressure area over Northwest and adjoining West Central Bay of Bengal (issued at 0820 HRS IST of today, the 27th May 2025): An Upper air cyclonic circulation extending upto mid-troposphere levels lay over Northwest and adjoining West Central Bay of Bengal at 0530 HRS IST of today, the 27th May 2025", said the SRC in a release and added that under its influence, a low pressure likely to form over the same area today.

Following this, the SRC has advised districts under Orange and Yellow warning to keep administrative machinery ready to face any eventuality.

People are advised to keep watch on weather and take shelter during the thunderstorm activity to protect from lightning.

The SRC further said that advice for fishermen to be strictly implemented and asked the district Collectors to submit a reports on the damage, if occurred due to thunderstorm, whirlwind, hailstorm, lightning and rainfall immediately for information of the government.

According to IMD's latest bulletin, several districts across state are likely to witness intense rainfall until May 30, which could accelerate the arrival of the southwest monsoon.

Besides, a yellow warning has been also been issued for 15 districts, including Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Boudh, Sonepur, Balangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi, and Nabarangpur.

Thunderstorms with gusty winds (30–40 km/h) and Kalabaishakhi storms are expected in several regions, the weather agency added.
