Low-Pressure System Over Bay of Bengal Likely to Bring Heavy Rain to Odisha

A low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal is moving towards north Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal, bringing heavy to very heavy rain to several parts of Odisha.
Bhubaneswar, Aug 24: A low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal and north Odisha remains active, with the system likely to move nearly northwestwards over the next 24 hours towards north Odisha and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal, the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar informed on Monday.

The weather system is likely to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall across several parts of Odisha, the IMD forecast.

For the next 24 hours, an Orange Warning has been issued for Sambalpur, Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada and Boudh districts, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places.

A Yellow Warning has been issued for the remaining districts, with heavy rainfall likely at some places along with light to moderate rain at a few locations.

Rain Forecast Till August 26
For the period from 8:30 am on August 25 to 8:30 am on August 26, the IMD has issued an Orange Warning for Sundaragada district, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places.

A Yellow Warning has been issued for Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Debagada, Kendujhar and Balangir districts, where heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds of 30-40 kmph are also likely at one or two places over these districts.

Meanwhile, people have been advised not to venture into the sea for the next 24 hours over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal, particularly along the West Bengal, Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coasts.
