Bhubaneswar, Aug 14: The India Meteorological Department's regional centre here has issued rainfall alert as a low-pressure system over the west-central adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a well-marked low-pressure area within the next 12 hours.

According to the weather agency, a low-pressure system over the west-central adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal and the nearby north Andhra Pradesh–south Odisha coast has been formed and is expected to intensify into a well-marked low-pressure area within the next 12 hours.

Under the influence, several districts will witness rainfall activity.

While an orange alert has been issued for Koraput and Malkangiri districts, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall measuring between 7 cm and 20 cm, several other districts are under yellow alert for heavy rain.

Gusty winds with speeds of 30 to 40 kmph may accompany the showers in some areas, the weather office predicted.

The IMD has also issued a yellow on August 15 and 16.

With the sea expected to remain rough, fishermen have been strictly advised against venturing into the deep sea until August 16. Authorities have also urged the public to remain alert.
