Low Pressure Area Forms Over BoB, Heavy To Very Heavy Rainfall Likely To Lash Several Districts Till Aug 15

A low-pressure area has formed over the west-central and northwest Bay of Bengal, off the coasts of north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha. 


While an orange alert has been issued for Koraput and Malkangiri, a yellow alert has been issued for the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Balangir, Nuapada, and Nabarangpur.

Bhubaneswar, Aug 13: Several districts across Odisha are likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall till August 15 as a low-pressure has formed in Bay of Bengal.

According to the IMD's latest bulletin, a low-pressure area has formed over the west-central and northwest Bay of Bengal, off the coasts of north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha. The system is expected to intensify in next 24 hours and move through northern Andhra coastal and southern Odisna in 48 hours.

Under the influence of this, heavy rains to very heavy rains expected in Odisha till August 15.

While an orange alert has been issued for Koraput and Malkangiri, a yellow alert has been issued for the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Balangir, Nuapada, and Nabarangpur.

Cuttack, Puri, Khurda, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, and Mayurbhanj are also likely to witness moderate to heavy showers, said the weather agency.

Following this, fishermen have been strictly advised not to venture into the sea until August 16 due to rough to very rough conditions in the Bay of Bengal.
