Bhubaneswar, Jun 17: A low-pressure area has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal, influenced by an active cyclonic circulation and the system is likely to intensify in the next 24 hours, informed the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) regional centre.
According to the weather agency, the system developed early this morning at around 5:30 AM over the Gangetic West Bengal and adjacent southwestern Bangladesh region.
The low-pressure system will intensify further in the next 24 hours, gradually moving towards the west-northwest direction, said the IMD.
Following this, monsoon activity is expected to increase in several regions, affecting both eastern and western parts of the country.
Currently, two low-pressure areas have been detected—one over the southwest region of Bangladesh and another over southern Gujarat and its adjoining areas. These twin systems are expected to bring widespread rainfall across multiple states.
The IMD further advised fishermen and coastal residents to remain alert, as rough sea conditions and increased wind speeds may impact maritime activities.
The intensified system could also influence agricultural operations, prompting farmers to prepare for potential shifts in rainfall patterns.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation, with updates expected as the system progresses. Stay tuned for further weather alerts and advisories.
