Berhampur, Jul 2: A chilling case of love turned fatal has emerged from Berhampur, where a 24-year-old man, Abhaya Moharana, allegedly murdered his girlfriend, Priya Moharana, over suspicions that she might marry someone else.
The incident occurred at a guesthouse near the New Bus Stand under Baidyanathpur Police Station limits.
According to police, Abhaya and Priya had known each other since childhood and were in a romantic relationship for several years. While Priya worked as a lab assistant at a private hospital, Abhaya had recently lost his job, leading to emotional distress and insecurity. Investigators believe that Abhaya feared Priya was distancing herself and might be planning to marry another man.
On the day of the incident, Abhaya lured Priya to a guesthouse around 3 pm. After spending some time together, he allegedly attacked her with a knife he had brought with him, fatally stabbing her. Following the murder, Abhaya fled the scene but later surrendered to police, confessing to the crime and even assisting officers in recreating the sequence of events at the crime scene.

The victim was rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital but was declared dead on arrival. The brutal nature of the crime and the premeditated planning have shocked the local community.
Police have registered a case of murder and are continuing their investigation. The accused is in custody and is expected to be produced in court soon.
