Mayurbhanj, Apr 7: In a gripping turn of events that unfolded in the Jharadihi market under Mayurbhanj district's Tiring police station jurisdiction, locals thwarted an attempted abduction of a wholesale shopkeeper, causing widespread commotion.
The incident transpired Sunday at around 7:30 PM, when 20-25 unidentified individuals from Jharkhand arrived in multiple vehicles, including Scorpios, targeting Bikash Agarwal (52), who owns a wholesale ration shop.
Reports suggest the assailants violently entered the shop and attempted to forcefully abduct Agarwal. However, their actions were interrupted by courageous locals who intervened, pulling Agarwal out of the vehicle.
During the clash, a local resident named Pradeep Behera suffered severe head injuries from hockey stick blows, while others sustained minor injuries. Facing resistance from the crowd, the perpetrators fled the scene, leaving behind a Scorpio vehicle, which was later seized.
Furthermore, two Jharkhand-based suspects were apprehended and handed over to the police by vigilant residents. Additional vehicles linked to the perpetrators were detained by the Tiring police. The gang was reportedly armed with hockey sticks and other weapons.
A case has been registered (49/25) and an investigation is underway, according to police sources. The commotion was suspected to have sparked by the seizure of two sand-laden highway vehicles by Jharadihi outpost officials.
