Vigilance Trap / Livestock Inspector Caught Red-Handed Taking Rs 80,000 Bribery in Nabarangpur

Nabarangpur, Jun 26: Odisha Vigilance on Friday apprehended Prafulla Haldar, a Livestock Inspector posted at Raighar under the Chief District Veterinary Officer (CDVO) in Nabarangpur district, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 80,000 from a complainant, officials said
According to official sources, Haldar demanded the bribe for
release subsidy funds under the State’s Mukhyamantri Kamadhenu Yojana, which
supports dairy farmers in setting up units with one to five cows.

Officials said Haldar had threatened the complainant that his subsidy, along with that of other villagers, would be blocked if the money was not paid. Finding no alternative, the beneficiary approached Vigilance department.
Accordingly, Vigilance officials laid a trap and caught Haldar red-handed while accepting the bribe. The entire amount of Rs 80,000 was recovered from his possession and seized.

✨Following the arrest, simultaneous searches were launched at
two locations linked to Haldar to investigate disproportionate assets.
Vigilance sources said that a case has been registered at Koraput Vigilance
Police Station under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act,
2018.

The Mukhyamantri Kamadhenu Yojana, introduced to strengthen the dairy sector in Odisha, provides financial assistance to farmers for establishing small dairy units. Officials said corruption in the scheme undermines its purpose of empowering rural households and improving livelihoods.
The investigation is ongoing, and Vigilance officials stated that a detailed report will follow.
