Balasore, Jul 12: In a tragic incident, three labourers, including two women and one man, lost their lives after being struck by lightning while taking a break during canal construction work in Chhatrapur village under Nilagiri block’s Berhampur police station limits.
The incident occurred when the workers, engaged in canal digging, sat down to eat amid their shift. Suddenly, a bolt of lightning accompanied by thunder struck the group, killing three on the spot and leaving two women critically injured.
Local residents and fellow workers rushed to the scene and alerted authorities. The deceased bodies were transported to Berhampur Medical Centre, while the injured were admitted to Nilagiri Medical Hospital for emergency treatment.
