Bhubaneswar, Oct 13: A terrifying incident unfolded late Sunday night at a ladies’ PG hostel in Sailashree Vihar, Bhubaneswar, when an unidentified miscreant infiltrated the premises and created panic among the residents.

The intruder reportedly deceived the security guard and entered the building, targeting a young woman sleeping on the first floor.

According to eyewitness accounts, the miscreant attempted to drag the woman, but she woke up and screamed for help. In a calculated move, the intruder locked the outer doors of other rooms, preventing residents from coming out. Fortunately, a roommate who was in the bathroom heard the commotion and intervened, helping the woman escape.

During the scuffle, two women sustained minor injuries. The attacker then brandished a sharp weapon and injured several others before fleeing the scene. The incident has left the hostel residents shaken, with many standing guard through the night out of fear.

Following a formal complaint by the victim, Chandrasekharpur police arrived at the scene and launched an investigation. CCTV footage is being reviewed, and the hostel owner is being questioned to determine lapses in security and access control.

The police are also probing how the intruder managed to bypass security and whether there was any prior connection with the residents. The incident has sparked concerns over safety measures in private hostels, especially those housing young women.
