Bhubaneswar, July 7: In a major development, Vishal Das, son of late Minister Naba Kishore Das, appeared before the Income Tax Department here on Monday following a formal notice issued in connection with alleged financial irregularities.
The summons comes in the wake of a series of raids conducted at nine locations, including the residence of the late Minister, as part of an ongoing investigation into suspected benami companies and tax evasion. Vishal Das was questioned regarding his association with certain entities believed to be fronts for undisclosed income and assets.
According to the sources, the inquiry is focused on tracing financial transactions linked to companies that may have been used to conceal wealth. Last month, the IT teams conducted coordinated searches across Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and New Delhi, seizing documents and digital evidence.

✨Vishal Das’s appearance marks a crucial step in the investigation, which has already drawn public attention due to the high-profile nature of the individuals involved. Late Naba Das, a former Health Minister of previous BJD government, was assassinated in early 2023, and his family’s financial dealings have since come under scrutiny.
Officials confirmed that Vishal Das cooperated during the questioning and provided preliminary responses. Further interrogation and forensic audits are expected as the department builds its case.
The Income Tax Department has not yet issued an official statement on the findings, but sources suggest that the investigation may expand to include other associates and business links of the Das family.
