Railways / Landslide Disrupts Rail Services in Odisha; Four Trains Cancelled Till Oct 3

Bhubaneswar, Sep 30: Rail traffic on the crucial Koraput-Kirandul route has remained disrupted since a landslide struck the section between Maliguda and Chhatriput stations in Odisha's Koraput district on September 25, forcing the Railways to cancel several passenger and express services and curtail a key long-distance train till October 3, officials said on Wednesday.

According to the Rayagada Railway Division, restoration work is in progress on the affected section, where train movement has been impacted following the landslide. Railway authorities have intensified efforts to clear debris and restore normal traffic at the earliest.

Four trains cancelled

As part of the revised arrangements, the Railways has cancelled four trains on October 2 and 3. These include 58501 Visakhapatnam-Kirandul Passenger and 58502 Kirandul-Visakhapatnam Passenger.

Additionally, 18515 Visakhapatnam-Kirandul Express and 18516 Kirandul-Visakhapatnam Express will remain cancelled during the period due to operational constraints on the affected route.

Express service curtailed

The disruption has also affected the operation of the Bhubaneswar-Jagdalpur Hirakhand Express.

Railway officials said 18447 Bhubaneswar-Jagdalpur Express will run only up to Koraput, instead of proceeding to Jagdalpur. Similarly, 18448 Jagdalpur-Bhubaneswar Express will originate from Koraput, resulting in a partial cancellation on the affected stretch.

Efforts to restore normalcy

Railway engineering and maintenance teams have been deployed to restore the damaged section and ensure safe train operations. Authorities said work is being carried out on a priority basis to bring the route back into service as soon as possible.

The disruption is likely to inconvenience passengers travelling between Odisha and Chhattisgarh, particularly those using the Kirandul route for regular travel and business purposes.

Railway officials have advised passengers to check the latest train schedules and service updates before commencing their journeys. The Railways has assured that further announcements will be made based on the progress of restoration work and the condition of the affected track section.
