Railways / Landslide Disrupts Koraput–Kirandul Rail Line, Six Trains Cancelled

Koraput, Sep 25: Train services on the Koraput–Kirandul line was severely disrupted on Friday after a landslide blocked tracks between Maliput and Chhatriput in Odisha, railway officials said.

Continuous rainfall in the region triggered the landslide, forcing the cancellation and curtailment of several passenger services.

According to the East Coast Railway (ECoR), six trains have been cancelled following the landslide between Maligura and Chhatariput railway stations under the Rayagada Division.

The cancellations affect passenger and express services connecting Visakhapatnam, Kirandul, Rourkela and Jagdalpur on September 25 and 26.

The following trains have been cancelled:

• 58502 Kirandul–Visakhapatnam Passenger (Sept 26)
• 58501 Visakhapatnam–Kirandul Passenger (Sept 26)
• 18516 Kirandul–Visakhapatnam Express (Sept 26)
• 18515 Visakhapatnam–Kirandul Express (Sept 26)
• 18107 Rourkela–Jagdalpur Express (Sept 25)
• 18108 Jagdalpur–Rourkela Express (Sept 26)

Officials said the Rourkela–Jagdalpur Express was cancelled for September 25, while the remaining five services stand cancelled for journeys commencing on September 26.

In addition, some long‑distance trains, including those on the Howrah–Jagdalpur and Bhubaneswar–Jagdalpur routes, have been curtailed up to Koraput. Services between Koraput and Jagdalpur in both directions will remain suspended until clearance work is completed.

Railway engineers and staff have launched restoration operations to remove debris and repair the affected section. “Restoration work is in progress, and passengers are requested to verify updates before commencing their journey,” the ECoR said.

The Koraput–Kirandul line, which passes through hilly terrain, is prone to landslips during heavy monsoon spells.

Passengers planning to travel on these routes have been advised to check the latest train status through official railway enquiry channels before beginning their journeys.
