Labour Minister Ganeshram Sing Khuntia Distributes Labour Cards To Construction Workers

Bhubaneswar, Aug 31: State Labour Minister Ganeshram Sing Khuntia has distributed labour cards to construction workers here at Kochilaput in Sundarpada, Saturday.

Explaining on this decision, Sing Khuntia has said that the construction workers can apply online to get the benifits of Construction Workers' Welfare Yojana, a government scheme.

"The workers can get every benifit of all the Jana Seva Kendra under the scheme after applying online through www.nirmanshramik.odisha.gov.in," said Sing Khuntia. 

"The registered workers will be granted multiple benifits,which include maternity benifit, education benifit, funeral expenses, death benifit and education benifits, under the scheme," he added. 

The scheme is run by the Labour and Employee's State Insurance Department, Govt of Odisha. Sing Khuntia also said that the labour registration will take place in 314 blocks across the state. 

"Labour officers will visit every Panchayats and they will conduct the registration works on the spot," he stated, adding: "More than 42 lakhs of labourers are registered in Odisha."

Moreover, the state govt has also given priorities to the social safety of unregistered and unorganised workers. The minister said that these workers will be provided facilities like medical assistance, bereavement assistance as well as assistance for accidental disability.

"The state government has also made arrangements to provide a scholarship of Rs 1,00,000 to the children of employees, who make annual contributions to the Odisha Labour Welfare Board, studying at allotted education institutes," said the Labour Minister.

According to Sing Khuntia, the registered workers will get the assistance from Rs 2,000 to Rs 40,000 for education, Rs 50,000 for marriage, Rs 10,000 for maternity and Rs 2 lakhs in case of natural death, while Rs 4 lakhs in case of death at workplace. 

The workers will also get Rs 5,000 as funeral expenses. The construction workers will also be included in Pension Yojana and Ashraya Yojana.

"This card (labour card) will give the labourers an identity as well as an opportunity to have the facilities under various government schemes," explained Sing Khuntia about the advantage of the labour cards.
