Bhubaneswar, Feb 28: Veteran actor Uttam Mohanty, who made his mark in the Odia film industry for over three decades, remained uncontested in the 80's. Known for his stylish look and lively acting made him popular in every Odia household.
Born on December 23, 1958 at Baripada in Mayurbhanj, Uttam Mohanty started his acting career with the film 'Abhimaan' in 1977. Apart from Odia films, the actor worked in 30 Bengali films and one Hindi film named 'Naya Zaher'. He has acted in over 130 films.
Due to his impeccable and artistic performance, the actor earned his special place in Ollywood and ruled the cinema in the 1980s.
The actor gave many super hit films like Udandi Sita, Danda Balunga, Jordar Mulak Tar, Dekh Khabar Rakh Nazar, Lakshman Rekha, Sei Jhiati, Paradesi Chaddei. In 1979, he acted in films like Chinha-Achinha, Nijhum Raatira Saathi. Ramayan, Ram Balram in 1980.
In 1984, Danda Balunga gave him a different identity. In 1990, Sasti, Gopare Badhuchi Kal Kanhei, Rajarani, Kandhei, Vidhi Ra Vidhana touched the hearts of the Odia audience.
The late actor gave some mesmerize performance in films like E Jugara Krushnasudama, Mu Tate Love Karuchi, Tumaku Paruni Bhuli, Aila Re Odia Pua, Tu Mori Pae, Pagala Karuchi Paunji Tora, Vidyarana.
The veteran actor is the recipient of several awards, including the State Film Award and Odia Cinema’s highest honour “Jayadev Puraskar”.
He received the best actor award from the state government for three consecutive years from 1982 to 1984.
