KIIT Suicide: Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi Assures Nepal Officials Of Speedy Justice For Deceased Girl

Bhubaneswar, Feb 19: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has assured the officials from Nepal that the state government would ensure speedy justice for the Nepali student, who was found dead at her hostel room in Bhubaneswar.

CM Majhi also gave assurances that peace and normalcy would be restored on the campus of the KIIT. “Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi spoke with Nepali Counsellors Sanjeeb Das Sharma and Navin Raj Adhikari, assuring them that justice will be served in the case of the deceased KIIT student,” informed the CMO, Wednesday.

“He also assured that peace and normalcy would be restored on the KIIT campus. The CM urged Nepali students to return to campus and resume their studies,” CMO added.

As per the information provided by the CMO, Cabinet Ministers Mukesh Mahaling and Suryabanshi Suraj, along with Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja held a discussion with the Nepal officials to ensure the restoration of normalcy at KIIT.

What really happened?

Notably, the deceased student, identified as Prakriti Lamsal, a third-year B.Tech (Computer Science) student, ended her life February 16 following alleged harassment by her estranged boyfriend Advik Shrivastava, a student of B.Tech (Mechanical). Police have already arrested the accused.

In the wake of the incident, many students staged a protest demanding justice for the deceased. However, they were allegedly assaulted before being forcefully evicted from the campus by the KIIT authorities.

The investigating police team has recovered the suicide note of the deceased. The note, reportedly written in Nepali language, mentions that she was continuously harassed by the accused.

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been handed over to her family late Tuesday night after the completion of post-mortem.
