Panigarahi has sent his resignation letter to Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) President Sarat Pattanayak.

✨"I am hereby tendering my resignation from all positions including the primary membership of the Indian National Congress with immediate effect," he said in his letter.
In the 2019 elections, Panigarahi was elected as MLA from Khariar Legislative Assembly in Nuapada District on a Congress ticket.
