Khannagar Bridge Tragedy: CM Majhi Orders Probe, Assures Help To Victims

Cuttack, May 4: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has ordered a thorough investigation into the tragic bridge collapse incident in Cuttack's Khannagar, which claimed the lives of at least three individuals, including an engineer and two labourers.

The Chief Minister expressed deep sorrow over the accident and announced financial assistance for the families of the deceased.

Additionally, he directed that free medical treatment be provided to the injured. Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj also conveyed his condolences and wished for the swift recovery of the injured workers.

Meanwhile, Works Minister Prithviraj Harichandan visited seriously injured labourers at SCB Medical College and Hospital.

During his visit, the minister said that the government has decided to launch a high-level investigation into the incident, forming a three-member technical team comprising the Works Department Secretary, Chief Engineer, and Additional District Magistrate (ADM).

Strict action will be taken based on the inquiry report, said the minister.

The accident occurred on Saturday evening when a crane lifting a slab at the bridge construction site fell on the workers. Following the incident, three persons died while five others sustained critical injuries.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the cause of the failure and assess the safety measures in place at the construction site.
