Bhubaneswar, Feb 3: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Rajesh Prabhakar Patil has warned Jatra party owners directing them not to include any obscene dance performance at the Khandagiri Mela.

Speaking in this regard, Patil said that the Jatra party owners have been directed to not to include any obscene dance performance at Khandagiri Mela.

“The owners are told not to damage the prestige of Khandagiri and the Kumbh Mela. Strict action will be taken in case of violation,” said the BMC Commissioner.

Patil said that the owners are aware of the guidelines and he expects that the jatras will be performed in accordance with the guidelines.

What is Khandagiri Mela?

Khandagiri Mela, also referred as Magha Mela, Khandagiri Kumbh Mela or Kumbh Mela of Bhubaneswar, is a religious fair. It is organised by the BMC, attracting thousands of devotees, pilgrims, and tourists. The fair is organised on the Odia calendar month of Magha every year.

What happens at the Mela?

Apart from the Religious rituals, the fair has become one of the major cultural events in the state. It represents the rich cultural heritage of Odisha. It is a significant cultural and religious gathering, featuring spiritual discourses, folk performances, handicraft exhibitions, and a vibrant marketplace.

Dates & Venue

The Khandagiri Mela 2025 is all set to commence February 4 (Tuesday) and conclude February 12. The nine-day fair will take place at Khandagiri Caves in Bhubaneswar.
