Bhubaneswar, Jan 2: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has taken a firm stand against obscenity in cultural performances at the upcoming Khandagiri Mela. However, in a significant move, the civic body has prohibited item dances and any form of vulgar display, aiming to preserve the sanctity and cultural essence of the event, officials said on Friday.
Strict Monitoring
BMC Mayor Sulochana Das announced during the preparatory meeting that police and BMC teams will closely monitor performances to ensure compliance. ✨Cultural Integrity
The Khandagiri Mela, popularly known as the Magha Mela, attracts thousands of visitors each year. Known for its vibrant theatre tradition, the mela has often been overshadowed by debates on the morality of certain performances. This year, authorities are determined to restore cultural dignity by enforcing stricter guidelines.
Additional Measures
Beyond performance regulations, BMC has announced several measures to improve the mela experience. The fair will be plastic-free, with 100 CCTV cameras installed for surveillance.
