Keonjhar, Apr 18: In a heartrending incident, two, including a Class X boy, drowned in the Kesharikunda Baitarini River near Sarei village under Keonjhar district's Champua police station limits today.


According to the information, eight students, all mess boarders, went to Kesharikunda to enjoy a bath in the river as their school was off for Good Friday today. While bathing, three students slipped into deep water.


While one could be rescued safely, two others went into deep water. Later, they were rescued and rushed to Champua Hospital, where doctors declared them dead.

The deceased were identified as Nitish Podar, a Class X student of Champua Kerala English Medium School, and Pritam Mahanta of Barbil.


The incident has sent a shockwave through the area.
