Flood Fury / Kendujhar's Joda, Badbil Reel Under Heavy Rain & Flooding

Joda/Badbil, Aug 13: Heavy to very heavy rainfall triggered widespread waterlogging and flooding in several parts of Joda and Badbil in Odisha's Kendujhar district, disrupting normal life and leaving several low-lying areas inundated.

In Joda, several wards and market areas have been submerged following the incessant rain. The Suna river has also swelled, worsening the situation in areas along its banks.

The market area near the riverbank, the locality near the Women's College and Bachu Hating area are among the worst-affected areas in Joda.

Several roads across the town have also been inundated, with floodwater flowing over the carriageways. In the low-lying Banspani area, rainwater entered residential houses, leaving residents struggling to cope with the situation.

The continuous rainfall also damaged two kutcha houses in Bachu Hating. The houses belonging to Mani Karua and Saraswati Nayak were damaged, though no loss of life was reported.

Badbil Faces Flood-Like Situation
Meanwhile, a flood-like situation emerged along the Badbil-Bhadrasahi State Highway, where water has accumulated and is flowing over the road.


Several wards in Badbil have been affected as rainwater has failed to drain properly. Low-lying areas have been particularly badly hit, with water entering homes and damaging household belongings.

The Dhobi Hating area, lower Mahanta Basti in Ward 7, the area adjoining the dam in Ward 4 and the locality near Shani Temple are among the areas where residents have reported water entering their houses.

Strong Water Current Raises Concern
A strong current of water was reported near Shani Temple. Drainage water flowing from higher areas gathered considerable speed and breached the wall of a person's house before flowing through the damaged section.


At the time of filing this report, residents in some areas remain effectively waterlogged, facing considerable difficulties due to the continuing rainfall and inundation.

Municipality Uses Pumps To Drain Water
The Badbil Municipality has deployed pumps at several locations to drain accumulated water and ease the situation.


However, with more rainfall forecast in the coming hours, residents in the affected and low-lying areas remain concerned about further waterlogging and possible deterioration of the situation.
