Kendrapara, Aug 8: In a major breakthrough, police have detained Lipan Pramod Behera, male friend of the 21-year-old student, who was found charred to death inside her house under suspicious circumstances.

The accused, who had been absconding since the incident, was arrested from Chennai after an intensive manhunt.

According to the complaint filed by the victim’s father, their daughter, a Plus Three final-year student of political science, immolated herself following a blackmail threat from her boyfriend.

The deceased’s father alleged that the girl was in a relationship with a youth for the past two years and ended her life after being blackmailed by her boyfriend with whom she had broken up a few months back.

Following the complaint, Kendrapara police had launched a full-scale investigation.

The arrest of Lipan Behera marks a significant step forward in the pursuit of justice. Authorities confirmed that he will be brought back to Odisha for further interrogation and legal proceedings.
