Kendrapara, Aug 12: In a heart-wrenching incident in Odisha’s Kendrapara district, a 15-year-old Class 10 student was allegedly gang-raped in the Rajnagar area on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. The minor girl had reportedly gone to the local market with a relative when she was assaulted.

 

According to police sources, the victim was first allegedly assaulted by her relative and later by four other youths. The Rajnagar police have detained all five accused and are conducting further investigation. The incident has sent shockwaves across the region and sparked widespread condemnation.

 

The case has quickly taken a political turn, with leaders from both the ruling and opposition parties weighing in. BJD MLA Dhruba Sahu criticized the state government, expressing concern over the rising incidents of violence against women in the State. He called for stronger preventive measures and accountability from law enforcement agencies.

In response, BJP MLA Bibhuti Pradhan defended the government led by Chief Minister Mohan Majhi, stating that the State government is committed to ensuring women’s safety and has taken swift and strict action in this case. He assured that justice will be delivered and such crimes will not be tolerated.

 

Meanwhile, the Odisha Police intensified their probe and are expected to question more individuals connected to the case. Police also promised psychological support and protection for the victim and her family.

 

The incident has reignited the debate on women’s safety in Odisha and the need for urgent policy and policing reforms to prevent such heinous crimes.
