Jajpur, July 28: In a tragic incident, a Kanwariya died after drowning in Baitarani river near Ballabhi ghat in Odisha's Jajpur district on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Prashant Samal, a resident of Purusottampur village under Bhandaripokhari police limits in Bhadrak district.

As per reports, Prashant along with his four friends had gone to Ballabhi ghat to carry the holy water and then offer the water to the Shivling at Akandalami Peeth in Aradi on the auspicious occasion of second ‘Sawan Somwar’ tomorrow.

While bathing in the river, Prashant slipped into the deep water and drowned in the strong currents of the river.

After getting information, Fire Services personnel rushed to the spot and rescued Prashant in a critical condition. Prashant was immediately taken to the hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Local Police seized the body and started an investgation into the incident.
