Bhubaneswar, June 5: Bhubaneswar witnessed a special visit by actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut on Friday, as she combined environmental advocacy with the promotion of her upcoming film Bharat Bhagya Vidhata. Marking World Environment Day, Ranaut planted a sapling in the Odisha capital under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, which encourages citizens to plant trees in the name of their mothers, linking environmental responsibility with a deeply personal gesture.
The event, organized at the official residence of Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, saw participation from senior leaders including CM Majhi himself and Mandi MP Sambit Patra. The campaign aims to raise awareness about the crucial role of trees in mitigating climate change, emphasizing the importance of nurturing nature for a sustainable future. Speaking to the media, Ranaut expressed her pleasure in contributing to the initiative, highlighting the campaign’s blend of emotional and ecological significance. “On World Environment Day, under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, I planted a sapling in Bhubaneswar. I am happy to contribute towards environmental awareness,” she said.
In addition to her environmental efforts, Kangana’s visit also focused on her cinematic venture, Bharat Bhagya Vidhata. Scheduled for release on June 12, Bharat Bhagya Vidhata is a thriller based on real-life heroism displayed by nurses and healthcare staff during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. Kangana plays a dedicated staff nurse, portraying the courage and selflessness of women and hospital workers who safeguarded nearly 400 patients—including pregnant women and newborns—despite personal risk.
Directed by Manoj Tapadia and produced in collaboration with Pen Studios and Manikarnika Films, the movie underscores themes of courage, national resilience, and unsung heroism. Kangana’s dual-purpose visit successfully highlighted both environmental consciousness and the celebration of real-life heroes, leaving a lasting impression on Odisha’s political and cultural circles.
