✨While observing the discus throw event, the student was standing dangerously close to the field. A competitor’s throw went astray and hit him directly on the forehead. He collapsed with severe injuries and was rushed first to Sonepur and later to a private hospital in Baragada.
Doctors confirmed fractures in his skull and nasal bones, blood clots around his eyes and forehead, and damage extending to his vision. The student underwent a craniotomy surgery, but his condition remains critical.
His parents are devastated. They had dreamt of their son excelling in studies, but now they struggle to arrange funds for his treatment. Despite spending their savings and receiving some help from teachers, the student’s recovery has been slow.
The family has appealed for government assistance to cover medical expenses, which are expected to run into lakhs of rupees.
A social activist has demanded strict action against
teachers responsible for supervising the event, accusing them of negligence. He
pointed out that discus throw rules prohibit anyone from standing near the
throwing area, yet the student was allowed to remain close without
intervention.
